What do I do?
I focus only on areas where hypnotherapy, a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and/or mindfulness and acceptance-based approach have been demonstrated to be effective and safe in the scientific and clinical literature. This is often referred to as using an 'evidence-based approach'.

I operate both face-to-face and online.

What issues and problems can we address?

I often quickly summarise the issues I help my clients with under 5 main categories: Stress, Sleep, Habits, Mood & Motivation.

More specifically, problems for which our treatments can be appropriate include:

-
Challenging or difficult thoughts and feelings
-
Low mood, loss of direction and mid-life malaise
-
Procrastination and poor motivation
-
Sleep issues and insomnia
-
Stress management and relaxation
-
Anxiety and worry
-
Anger management
-
Confidence and assertiveness at work
-
Giving up smoking, vaping, and other substances
-
Stopping unwanted habits such as nail biting
-
Managing pain and chronic illness
-
Weight management, mindless eating and exercise discipline
-
Enhancing performance in sports, business, education and your hobbies

However, please do not hesitate to contact me if you are concerned about a problem that is not listed above. I am committed to providing an open and honest approach with my clients and will only recommend a course of treatment that I believe will be effective.

What specific interventions will we employ?

Following on from a thorough assessment in our first session together, we will agree a tailored and personalised treatment plan together, which may include one or multiple evidence-based approaches to treatment such as:

-
Collaborative goal setting
-
Hypnotic rehearsal, visualisation and exposure
-
Systematic desensitisation
-
Stress inoculation training (SIT)
-
Mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches
-
Resilience coaching
-
Values assessment and values-based living
-
Relaxation training
-
Challenging negative beliefs (or 'cognitive disputation')
-
Problem solving therapy
-
Assertiveness and authenticity training
How many sessions will I need?
All of our therapy approaches - hypnotherapy, CBT, mindfulness, and stress management, are typically considered short-term therapies. This usually means a treatment programme of between 4 and 12 sessions. Each treatment plan is tailored to the your exact needs and requirements. We will agree the possible extent of the programme before we start.

Typically smoking/vaping cessation programmes are shorter programmes of usually 2 sessions (with an optional 'top up' session).
My intention is to give you all the tools and confidence you then need to 'become your own therapist' as quickly as possible. There is no set contract and you are not obligated to complete all the sessions outlined if you are happy with your outcome before we complete all the outlined sessions.
Some clients like to maintain an ongoing coaching relationship (either in performance at work, education or sports, or for general resilience building) going forwards beyond their initial therapy programme, and that is, of course, great too!
COVID 19 UPDATE: We have now returned to offering our services through both face-to-face as well as using online methods.
Lock down restrictions have showed us that our approach can be just as effective when delivered only through online means and so we remain very happy to offer this to our clients if they prefer this approach.
"When I first started working with Chris I averaged about 4 to 5 hours sleep a night. Thanks to him I now have a normal sleep pattern and this has had a huge impact on all aspects of my life. I am incredibly grateful"

"I was really drawn to the mindful approach Chris uses. After only a couple of online coaching sessions I feel I have regained my confidence, am much happier in how I feel, and much more confident in my goals. In the beginning I was a sceptical about online coaching but now I highly recommend it. "
